Counterpart. Diamond Child school

BRIEF SUMMARY
This Project aims at giving continuity to the Diamond Child, a vocational training school built during 2001 and 2007 that offers courses on arts, culture and sports to war-affected children, many of whom are orphans and former combatants. The building of a multipurpose sports ground and the purchase of premises for the center will make it possible to welcome 400 children as direct beneficiaries of the project, plus 1,500 indirect beneficiaries.
The location of the center offers several advantages: next to it there is a complex with a kindergarten a Primary school and a health center, all in front of the sea. Sierra Leone is just emerging from a deep socio-economic crisis. The project aims at responding to this post-war situation with the creation of new employment, opportunities for technical training and a healthy leisure time for the youth. We foresee to build a multipurpose ground whre the kids shall be able to play hockey, basketball, soccer and handball.
The school aims at self-sustainability, since the project includes the starting of a farm and a school of art, both of which will generate income.
