BRIEF SUMMARY: The Project provided a network of six sports centers in Lixeira, the most populous and neglected neighborhood of Luanda. The beginning of this project came in timely as it happened soon after the end of Africa’s longest war. The sports installations are integrated in a number of educational and community centers. Outstanding among them is the center at Roque Market: said to be Africa’s biggest popular market, where there is a sports center which opens during weekends. The center is built on a former rubbish dumpsite. To sustain this project we have trained 24 young social workers in sports, physical education, center-management and social leadership skills. The sport team in Lixeira has consolidated itself, with strong support in other centers in Trilhos, Botafogo, Mabubas, Roque, Boavista and Escuela Don Bosco. The sport and educational activities are on-going and they have full support of the community with high levels of participation.
