• City, country: San Salvador, El Salvador.
• Beneficiaries: 1,500 directly
• Total cost: 248,849 euro
• Sport Network Funding: Comunidad de Madrid, 171,365 euro
• Duration: 12 months.
BRIEF SUMMARY: After long years of conflict in El Salvador, the Silesians’ – our local partner here – have a wonderful reputation in the zone because of their commitment to the area, particularly with youth. In this project, Sport Network will build a multiuse education and sports pavilion on the premises of the “Polígono Industrial Don Bosco,” where several sports will be played: volleyball, indoors soccer, basketball, and martial arts. We also focus on the improvement of the outdoors facilities of the center for children and youth who live in a high-risk zone where the “maras” (organized criminal youth gangs notorious for their violence) thrive. The sports project is an interesting way of attracting young people who may find in it an alternative to street life that exposes them to contact with crime and gang involvement. We will also train a group of youth leaders in peaceful co-existence and respect for human rights.
