
Soccer to heal traumas for war-affected children in Northern Uganda or to help kids in Goma (D R Congo) go to school. These were some of the experiences presented on June 2 by our press officer, José Carlos Rodríguez, in his conference about “Popular soccer in Africa” at the Madrid Media Association. One of his officials, Bernardino M. Hernando, and Red Deporte co-director Carlos de Cárcer also spoke at the public event.
Taking advantage of the proximity of the soccer world cup, for the last few months Red Deporte has been calling on Spain’s public opinion to take interest on another side of sport: the one played away from the big stadiums, in slums and rural areas, by young players who don’t sign multi-million dollar contracts, but who would be happy with eating twice a day and going to school.
